National City is the second oldest city in San Diego County. National City's
Victorian heritage is one of its more important assets. Incorporated on
September 17, 1887, National City was originally part of the 26,000-acre El
Rancho de la Nacion, which was purchased in 1868 by Frank Kimball and his
brothers Warren and Levi. They cleared lands, built roads, constructed the
City's first wharf and brought the railroad to the City.

When in
National City see the Filipino Village a project of the Community
Development Commission of National City.
National
City’s vision for Filipino Village is focused on improving the lives of
the residents, business owners and visitors of National City.
Upon its
successful launch, Filipino Village may serve as a model for other
ethnic groups to create new districts they can be proud of too.
And while
visitors are here, we have the opportunity to educate them about the
contributions Filipinos have made to the history and growth of the San
Diego region. So, our second intent is to create opportunities to tell
our Filipino story. With community, art, history monuments or centers we
can help bridge the gap of understanding about the struggles of our
immigrant leaders, the challenges of the Fil-Am experience and leave a
visual legacy so that our children will be inspired to discover more
about who they are and where they come from.
