Solana Beach is just a short drive away from the
attractions of San Diego which include the world famous San Diego Zoo, the Wild
Animal Park, Sea World, and Seaport Village. Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm
are within an hours drive to the north. It would take just 2-3 hours to drive to
Palm Springs, or the ski resorts of the San Bernardino Mountains.
Community Events
Fletcher Cove has been the site of many local and national
surfing competitions, triathlons, and the annual Fiesta del Sol or "holiday of
the sun." The Fiesta, which is held in June and is a "kickoff" for summer,
spills out of Fletcher Cove and covers several blocks with music entertainment,
arts and crafts and international food. Every Sunday a Farmer's Market is held
from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the parking lot on the corner of N. Cedros and Lomas
Santa Fe Dr. On the first Wednesday of the month, the Chamber hosts a Sundowner
at local businesses and restaurants. Everyone is welcome. Annually in the
Spring, a Business Expo is held and jointly sponsored by the Solana Beach, Del
Mar, Encinitas, and Cardiff Chambers of Commerce and is held at the Del Mar
Fairgrounds.
Day on the Town
Solana Beach offers a wide variety of retail opportunities for residents and
visitors. The city is home to several modern shopping centers that feature
retail chain stores, boutiques, coffeehouses, and fast food outlets. For those
who enjoy antiques or design items, South Cedros Avenue is a true end
destination design district. There are the studios of award winning designers,
art galleries, and furniture emporia; clothing, hand-crafted items, and fine
artwork.
There are great restaurants on South Cedros, on the highway 101 corridor, and on
Lomas Santa Fe Drive. Mexican food lovers throng to Eden Gardens, a small
community within Solana Beach, for authentic Mexican restaurants, and gracious
hospitality.
